5 reasons why you need signs at your wedding
In this blog post, I discuss why you should think about making use of creative signage at your upcoming wedding.
Wedding signs and welcome boards are more than just practical solutions to point to your wedding. They are also a personal way to enhance your wedding decoration, warmly greet your loved ones, determine the order of the day and create a talking point.
Here are my top reasons for adding creative signage to your ceremony and reception:
1. To welcome your guests
Using signs is an effective, welcoming detail to add to your special day. Welcome signs set the tone of the celebrations to come and will assist your wedding party in greeting your guests when they might not be able to receive everyone individually. These can be all illustrative or simple as you like to match your decor and personality.
Jas and Gurj welcomed their friends and family to their celebrations with a huge drawing of the two of them dressed in their wedding clothes. One of the nice things about an illustrated board like this is that after your big day, you have a custom piece of artwork to hang in your home afterwards.
Melissa and Martin commissioned a welcome sign which included lots of different elements that meant something to them and their relationship. Items included their black and white cat, favourite holiday destination and university.
2. To inform your guests
Signs are primarily used to deliver information to their audience. This can be helpful when you might not be there to advise in person. Order of the day signs are particularly useful to lay out the timeline of your wedding, so guests know what to expect. Use illustrated boards to direct people to the toilets, the ceremony, the bar and the dance floor!
Illustrated wedding timelines like these one I drew for Melissa and Martin, and Richard and Joanne, are a fun way to communicate your party schedule to your friends and family, at a glance.
3. To decorate your wedding
Signs and welcome boards add an eye-catching touch to every aspect of your wedding. Consistent colours and illustrations across all signage will help to create a cohesive wedding scheme and tie the decor together. Think creatively and extend the signage to table plans, and smaller items such as cake toppers and signs to label the tables.
Hannah and Oliver used a colourfully illustrated seating chart and table cards to decorate their wedding breakfast. I illustrated lots of different cocktails to represent each table, and to set the tone for their wedding celebrations from the outset.
4. To show your personality
Your wedding should be all about you and should reflect you as a couple. Wedding signage can be used to communicate your hobbies, interests, characters or life story.
Mika and Aki greeted their guest with an illustration of the two of them happily dancing with one another, surrounded by flowers. I included their wedding attire, tons of fairy lights and London’s Tower Bridge to coordinate with their day.
5. To introduce your wedding party
Not all of your guests will know everyone at your wedding. They may not even know who the wedding party are. In the absence of time to introduce them to everyone personally, a wedding party board can be helpful.
Jennifer and John opted for an illustrated bridal party board which I illustrated with all members of the wedding party. I drew the newlyweds at the top followed by rows of bridesmaids and flower girls, groomsmen and pageboys, with their names and roles written beneath.
Once you have decided what wedding signage you need, drop me a message to get started. I can create one, or multiple illustrated information boards to use on the big day. After your wedding, these bespoke signs make ideal wedding keepsakes to treasure forever.
